Versiunea in limba romanaCECILIA VOICULESCU - translator and interpreter, Romanian to English
and French to English

I am a Romanian certified interpreter of Romanian to English and French to English, based in Bucharest, Romania. Specialized as a simultaneous interpreter for conferences, seminars and working groups organized by government institutions from Romania and the European Union (the European Commission, the European Court of Justice, Romanian and EU competition authorities); consecutive interpreter within important international programs, institutions and companies (USAID, the World Bank, EU PHARE, ministries, CNIPMMR, the US embassy, E.ON, Search, etc); and legal translations (Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Human Rights Austria, IRZ Foundation Germany/Ministry of Justice – the code of criminal procedure, McGuireWoods, Biriș-Goran, Henkel). I am a permanent free-lance with the US Federal Trade Commission, the Department of Justice, and the Romanian Competition Council, in competition and state aid. An independent translator since 2007, I have been certified by the Ministry of Justice as an interpreter and translator for French and English since 2000. My projects also include editing and proofreading in English of legal and economic projects.

I also work on voice recording, editing and subtitling.

During 2002-3, I studied at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, USA, as a Fulbright Scholar grantee for research in applied linguistics at the Department of English, for a legal and economic dictionary of American and European terms. In 2005, I earned a M.A. in visual studies at CESI at the University of Bucharest, a multidisciplinary perspective over image and text in philosophy, arts and political science.

My clients benefit from my involvement in applied linguistics as author of a 'Legal Dictionary', English-Romanian, Romanian-English, published in 2005, at Niculescu Publishing, as a result of my work at the University of Michigan. The dictionary sold in over 5,000 copies and became a reference in the field of translations.

I published articles in the Dilema and Cultura magazines, and in Ad Astra online.
